We also extend our thanks to Ricardo Torlone that came with Thiago and helped the guys as well. Fedor Emelianenko signs a Contract w/ STRIKEFORCE!

Aug 04

Long considered the #1 fighter in the world, Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko just says no to the UFC and signs a new contract to begin fighting w/ STRIKEFORCE!Z! The first fight is scheduled for this fall.

More info is available here at The Dragon Zone:

This is another black eye for the UFC, who has been unable to sign Fedor due to conflicting interests and an unwillingness from Fedor’s management team M1 Global to back down from Dan White and the UFC’s offers.

Frank Mir VS Brock Lesnar UFC 100

Jun 16

mirlesnarOn July 11, 2009, The UFC will hold UFC 100, where Brock Lesnar, and Frank Mir, will fight for the Undisputed UFC Heavyweight Championship.  The two have met before at UFC 81: Breaking Point, where Frank Mir gave Lesnar his first career loss.

Will a more experienced Lesnar be able to avenge his loss, or will Mir be able to defend his title, and go 2-0 against Lesnar to become UFC Undisputed Heavyweight Champion?

Lesnar has good physical body, is fast, and strong, but has little experience with Mixed Martial Arts, having fought only four bouts, a loss to Mir, and three wins. His first win came in his MMA debut, against Min-Soo Kim.

Lesnar then won his UFC debut, defeating Heath Herring, and then beat Randy “The Natural” Couture for the UFC Heavyweight Championship back in November.  Lesnar is also a NCAA Division Champion.

Mir, on the other hand, has experience, with 15 MMA fights, losing only three of them.  Mir went on a 4-0 streak when he first began MMA, by beating Jerome Smith, Dan Quinn, Roberto Traven, and Pete Williams. Mir then received his first loss to Ian Freeman in his next fight.  He then got four more wins, improving to 8-1, defeating Tank Abbott, Wes Sims twice, and then Tim Sylvia for UFC Heavyweight Championship.

After returning to the UFC from a devastating motorcycle injury, Mir suffered losses to Marcio Cruz, and Brandon Vera, with a victory over Dan Christison in between.  Mir would then get three more wins by defeating Antoni Hardonk, Brock Lesnar, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for The UFC Intrem Heavyweight Championship, improving to an overall record of 12-3.

Both Lesnar and Mir have their Pro’s and Con’s:

Lesnar’s Pros

  • Extremely fast, overwhelming size and speed combination
  • Heavy hands
  • Good Wrestling

Lesnar’s Cons

  • Little Experience
  • Previous Lost to Mir
  • Conditioning

Mir’s Pros

  • Experience
  • Beaten Lesnar before
  • Great Submissions
  • Endurance
  • Speed

Mir’s Cons

  • Height Disadvantage
  • Weight disadvantage
  • Old Injury (could only imagine that it must be in the back of Mir’s mind)

Some of the features of UFC 100 are, Lesnar vs Mir 2, for the UFC Undisputed Heavyweight Championship, as well as George St-Pierre vs Thiago Alves for the UFC Welterweight Championship, and Team US coach, Dan Henderson takes on Team UK coach Michael Bisping for a shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship.

How does the MMA community feel about Brock Lesnar and his extremely fast rise in the UFC? Should he be taken seriously? Or is he just an over rated bull?
